Getting Seasick…
When traveling on cheap luxury cruises, becoming seasick can be
an important concern for anyone. Some are much more prone to queasiness
than others while on-board, however there are some great solutions
to the problem. First of all most modern ships are now generally
stabilized to reduce rolling and pitching motion (side to side and
up and down). Computer technology has allowed ships to minimize
the occurrence of uneasy motion thereby reducing the chance of getting
seasick.
If you are very sensitive or prone to motion sickness, there are
some great options for preventing the occurrence. “Seabands”
are an easy inexpensive way to prevent queasiness on-board. These
wristlets have a nub that is positioned to strike a pressure point
on the underside of the wrist. There are no side effects and they
are drug-free. These “seabands” can be found in just
about any pharmacy or on-board gift shop.
Medications are also available to subside any chance of getting
seasick. Brands such as Bonine and Dramamine are very effective
but have side effects such as drowsiness, sleeplessness, or dry
mouth. You also have to make sure that you avoid alcohol and sun
exposure while taking either one of these medications-which is sort
of a challenge while trying to enjoy your cruise!
Being bored…
Cruise lines might have been just a way to get from point A to point
B in the past, however now there are so many activities that some
people don’t even get off when the ship comes to port! Daytime
activities range from swimming, working out, spa treatments, shopping,
classes and lectures, board games, gambling, bowling, theater movies,
video games, miniature golfing, batting cages, basketball, volleyball
and tennis!
At night you can often find wine tasting, card tournaments, dancing,
theater performances, comedy shows, or cooking classes.
I won’t know enough about the boat I’ll get
lost…
Here’s the terminology to make sure you always know what you
are talking about!
Bow: the front or "pointy end" of the
ship
Stern: the back of the ship
Port: the left side of the ship as you face forward
Starboard: the right side as you face forward
Galley: the ship's kitchen
Bridge: Where the ships officers control and navigate
the ship from. It is the command center or "cockpit" of
the ship if you will.
